Event description

Description

Detroit has and continues to be filled with a rich architectural heritage, including important and inspiring contributions from the city's African-American Community. Join Noir Design Parti Detroit as they partner with the Detroit Experience Factory to celebrate the past, present, and future of African-American-designed Architecture in Detroit! The tour will leave promptly at 2 p.m., and explore sites along the Woodward Corridor and nearby streets and sites. AIA (American Institute of Architects) Continuing Education credits are available.

Stops Include:

  • Helen DeRoy Apartments at Wayne State University
  • Bethel AME Church
  • Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History
  • Second Baptist Church and Greektown People Mover Station

Noir Design Parti is exploring how black architects helped shape the physical identity of Detroit and their influence on design, the building community, and future generations. This is a fundraiser to help them continue this project, and raise matching funds for winning a 2016 Knight Arts Challenge Grant.
