Spring is a time of excitement, of change, of new beginnings and creative movement.

After the slow days and emotional depth of winter, springing forward comes with abrupt shifts to our bodies - both emotional and physical. Our bodies are tight and rigid from the lack of movement and heat available to us; our minds tired and ready for inspiration. We need to create space for detox and nurture, supporting us as we embrace the season, full of its potential and momentum.

In this class, we’ll go through a series of yin yoga postures - passive, meditative, long held postures on the floor - to release the pent up tension and rigidity from the winter.

Yin Yoga, modeling the taoist concept of yin - contemplation, nurture, femininity, depth, creativity, darkness, density - works with the thicker, less fluid tissues of the body like bone, fascia (connective tissue), tendons and ligaments. All postures are reclined or on the floor - never standing - and are held for up to five minutes. This allows time for not only deep release physically, but also emotionally.

A consistent and intelligently applied yin yoga practice targets deep tension patterns along the spine and hips, restoring our mobility and creating a tangible sense of relaxation.

Using the intelligence of our breath through guided pranayama paired with the yin yoga postures, we’ll create a recipe for even deeper, long lasting release.

Join us, as we detox the body of its tension and the mind of its attachments, opening up to freedom and ease.

*This a great class for beginners, and anyone that leads a busy, active lifestyle. Experienced Yogis are welcome and encouraged!

Alex Ryberg has been sharing the practice of Yin yoga in the Cincinnati community for five years, having taught likely 100 hours or more of just yin. She studied with the best, though biased, Matt Eshelman of You Do Yoga. She is often sought out for her approach in teaching yin - very meditative, contemplative, and intelligently sequenced with breathing techniques.

When not teaching at The Hive, Alex works with clients one-on-one through integrative yoga and thai yoga therapy as a SomaVeda™ Thai Yoga Integrative Therapist, trains beginning SomaVeda practitioners, hosts retreats, and organizes events regularly.

She loves to cook, hike, make art, and travel extensively.
