Intended Audience: Builders/remodelers, existing CAPS designees needing CE, healthcare professionals

Registration: 7:45-8:15am

Class time: 8:15am-4:30pm

Speaker: Alissa Boroff, BA, CAPS, COTA/L, MN-AS, Access Solutions, Director

Alissa holds degrees in interior design and in occupational therapy. This combination of experience and education provides her with the skills and insight to create functional and pleasing environments to meet the needs of clients and promote safe and independent living for people of all ages and abilities. Prior to founding Access Solutions, Alissa worked for residential and commercial design firms specializing in senior housing and accessible design. She also has worked in skilled nursing facilities providing therapy to seniors. These experiences have given her first hand knowledge and access to the barriers that seniors and the aging encounter on a daily basis. She also is involved in many local and state organizations focused on seniors and aging in place, teaching and speaking about aging in place and universal design to students, professionals, and community members. Alissa is a former Chair of the Minneapolis/St. Paul chapter of the National Aging in Place Council (NAIPC) and on the Board of Directors for the National Aging in Place Council, a former Chair of the local 50+ Housing Council at the Builder’s Association of the Twin Cities (BATC). She also has served as an adjunct faculty member at St. Catherine University and is certified as an NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) instructor for the Certified Aging in Place Specialist(CAPS) and Universal Design/Build courses.

Details & Solutions for Livable Homes and Aging in Place (CAPS III)

This course builds on the CAPS I and CAPS II courses (which are prerequisites for this course) by introducing design solutions and techniques for professionals whose clients require specialized design and equipment to live and thrive comfortably in their homes. Whole house product specification and installation techniques will be covered accompanied by practical, hands-on activities.

By completing this course, participants will be able to:
•Describe the challenging nature of design for aging in place projects.
•Identify available innovative and specialized products.
•Explain best practices for design and installation of key components in AIP home design.
•Describe the importance of budget and early product selection
•Identify common missteps for design and installation of AIP solutions.
•Recommend the best solutions for common single-room modifications based on needs identified in a provided client assessment and a room survey.
•List installation considerations for recommended modifications in a specified space.
•Prioritize the comprehensive solutions based on previous exercises when integrated into a real-world whole house scenario. •Evaluate design considerations and installation requirements for recommended modifications based on whole house layout and circulation patterns.
•Prioritize individual projects relative to budget, needs and urgency.
This course qualifies for:
•6 CE for AIBD
•0.6 AOTA CEUs
•6 AIA/CES HSW Learning Units
•6 NAHB CE for: CAPS, CGA, CGB, CGR, GMB, CSP, Master CSP, CMP, MIRM

Cancellation policy: Cancellations received at least five or more working days before the event are refundable, minus a $20 administrative charge per registrant. There is no refund for cancellations received within five days of course. A refund or voucher will be issued to any participant who is registered to attend a seminar that is cancelled by Centrex Rehab.
