Event description

Description

For our Final Pre Convergence Workshop, we are excited to welcome Andrew Faust

Designing Permaculture Farms and Communities

This course will focus on laying the groundwork for an entire land development project such as establishing ecological businesses, community farms, eco-villages, co-housing and homesteads. Topics covered: whole site analysis, mapping techniques, reading the landscape, making use of topography and hydrology, reading biological indicators.
Learn the fundamentals of creating your own Permaculture Landscapes and communities.

Come and heighten your permaculture design skills in interpreting the ecology and historical uses of a place on a new permaculture site.

Andrew Faust will give you a one day immersion into his decades of experience of working with Permaculture master planning for larger properties and projects throughout the northeast.
Topics of focus will include forest management, restoring damaged ecologies with forest gardening and silvopasture, and creating off-grid natural buildings with on-site & local materials, rain catchment and energy systems.

We will walk the property with multiple-use scenarios in mind and assess the land for a full-on Permaculture build-out. Walking and looking at maps as we go, we will discuss the goals and vision for Stonehedge Gardens and how to accomplish these. We may even dig up some small springs and show multiple examples of integrating gravity fed water on-site.

In addition we will look at examples of these components that have been installed on a range of clients’ sites. Additionally, we will explore further how to analyze and understand patterns and energetics of working with dynamic resilient ecologies with an eye towards long-term sustainable harvests of regionally appropriate goods and value added products.

Instructor Biography

Andrew Faust has lived breathed and worshipped a sense of the sacred on this Earth for 48 years, most of it in the eastern Appalachian bioregions. Faust is now making it his work to turn on hundreds of New Yorkers to the beauty of applying permaculture design in Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Hudson Valley, the Catskills region and the entire northeast.

For both his clients and his students, he demonstrates how to practice permaculture in the midst of the largest city in America, while integrating his lifelong wisdom of reading the northeastern corridor through Permaculture goggles. In his eight years homesteading off-the-grid, Andrew pursued a deeper understanding of Permaculture’s many facets. Now twenty years into his consultation services and projects, his immersion into the landscape has grown deeper. His varied urban, suburban and rural experiences have enriched his ability to read and sense diverse landscapes.

Andrew’s passions include natural building, fresh water springs, growing food ecologically and moving water with gravity.
