Event description

Description

Description:

Although Microsoft sells its Azure PaaS Database offerings on the basis of minimal administrative effort, how do you know for sure how things are running smoothly and if you are getting the optimum value for money from your investment.

Your first port of call is identifying which option you should be moving to. As well as Azure SQL DB, there is now Elastic Pools, Managed Instances and even PaaS options for MySQL, PostgreSQL and MariaDB.

Each of these has differences to the boxed product and you’ll learn the most important of these. There are some tools available to help with the decision of which offering and performance tier you will need. Depending upon which offering you choose, there are some exciting new utilities built in that can help with aspects of tuning and security.

Once your database is up and running in Azure, is that the end of the traditional DBA activities? You will see how that supposition can lead to big trouble and inflate your costs. The utilities we’ve examined don’t cover all the management tasks but looking beyond the PaaS Database resources, we find that Azure does also provide a number of additional services that can allow us to gain insights and use these to proactively monitor and manage your databases.

You will leave this session with a better story for your manager to convince him to move your workload to Azure and lower your total SQL Server costs.
