Event description

Description

People behave in peculiar ways. We plan to exercise at 6am, but when the alarm goes off we hit Snooze. We know flu shots save lives, but never get around to getting one. The traditional model of human behavior holds that human beings are rational actors, but everyday experience tells us that’s simply not true!

Behavioral science offers an alternative framework to help changemakers conceive new solutions across all domains of social impact. This interactive workshop will help participants apply behavioral science to their everyday lives so they can increase productivity, achieve their goals, and make more time for what really matters.

The event starts at 6PM, refreshments will be provided.

Facilitators:

Nicole Russo is a Senior Associate at ideas42, where she designs behavioral innovations to promote maternal and child health in the Democratic Republic of Congo and advises the NYC Mayor's Office on applying behavioral science to improve benefits access for low-income New Yorkers. Prior to joining ideas42, Nicole designed and managed programs funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development across a range of topics, including empowering women in Afghanistan, promoting tourism for economic growth in Jordan, and combatting avian flu in Indonesia. Nicole speaks French and holds a BA from Wake Forest University and an MPA from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University.

Anne Stotler is a Senior Associate at ideas42, where she works with New York City government agencies to apply behavioral insights to City programs and policies, as well as advising the U.S. Department of Labor on ways to integrate behavioral science into its work. Prior to joining ideas42, she worked at the U.S. Department of State, where she provided policy guidance on international labor rights, humanitarian issues, and HIV/AIDS response. Anne has also managed emergency housing assistance programs for individuals fleeing domestic violence and a research project focused on challenges facing children in urban poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa. She holds a Master in Public Policy degree from Harvard Kennedy School and a Bachelor’s in history from the University of Virginia.

About ideas42: We’re a non-profit applying insights from human behavior—why people do what they do—to help improve lives, build better systems, and drive social change. Working globally with a range of partners, we reinvent the practices of institutions, and create better products and policies that can be scaled for maximum impact. We also teach others, ultimately striving to generate lasting impact and create a future where the universal application of behavioral science powers a world with optimal health, equitable wealth, and environments and systems that are sustainable and just for all.
