Designing for Experience...
Scheer & Co and Handsome, co-hosts of Austin Design Week's closing event Designing for Experience, are curating 2 unique satellite events that dive into the design DNA of several of Austin's best-known businesses and brands.

with Tim League and Alamo Drafthouse.
Tim League is the founder of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema--named by Entertainment Weekly as the best cinema in America--the Rolling Roadshow, a worldwide traveling outdoor cinema that shows famous movies in famous places, and Fantastic Fest, one Variety's top 10 movie festivals. He's been designing experiences to enhance the motion picture exhibition experience since 1994, and has been at the forefront of his industry ever since.
Designing for Experience: Tim League Talks Movies & Preservation will be a unique glimpse into the past, present, and future of Alamo Drafthouse. With locations across the country and a brand ecosystem that extends from in-theater experiences to apps, art shows, and seemingly new touch points every year, how does Alamo maintain their unique dedication to those micro-moments of film-viewing delight while keeping the big picture all on the same screen?
Attendees will have a chance to talk to Tim, and hear about the considerations he and his team have made while completely reimagining the movie-going experience. Tim will also lead a hands-on demo of Alamo's newly acquired 1938 Vandercook letterpress and several of the 50,000 film advertising plates that will be the centerpieces of Alamo's soon-to-be Manhattan bar, The Press Room.
Our conversation with Tim will cover things like:
- The drive-by lightbulb moment that started it all in Bakersfield, CA
- How a midnight screening of "Blue Velvet" inspired Alamo's world famous no-talking policy
- A barn in Missouri that helped inspire Weird Wednesdays, and laid the foundation for the American Genre Film Archive
- Alamo's commitment to technology and innovation
Ticket price for this event includes:
- $20 gift card to use on food & drinks during the event
- Exclusive Designing for Experience letterpress poster
