About the Class:

This training is for people who want improve the quality of meetings and events, help people listen to each other with trust and respect, help build shared awareness of any problem or task, increase participation, get more value for the time spent, and convene deep conversations that lead to change. Even experienced facilitators will learn a deeper understanding of underlying principles and the importance of stance in this training.

This class will include a combination of the Technology of Participation (ToP)® Facilitation Methods, developed by the Institute of Cultural Affairs, Human Centered Design methods, and practical design approaches, developed through years of experience. Used alone or creatively combined and adapted, they serve as powerful tools for groups to think and work together in innovative and productive ways. The methods can be scaled to work with virtually any size group, from one to hundreds.

What you will learn:

Specific facilitation methods for group discussions and planning efforts that take less time, are more productive, and engage the creative spirit of all participants.
Ways to design questions that help people discuss difficult and important topics respectfully and thoroughly.
Ways to design different kinds of meetings depending on your goals and intentions.
How to increase participation and energy in meetings.
How to keep people focused on the purpose of the meeting.
How to go beneath the surface.
Ways to tap into the wisdom and knowledge of all participants.
