Event description

Description

Have you ever dreamt of creating your own custom lamp? Have an idea for a lamp that incorporates glass? Working with an experienced glass and lighting designer and technical glass blower, students will discuss the limitations and possibilities of creating a lighting source with blown glass. Explore the possibilities of various types of lighting options, including incandescent, halogen, fluorescent, and LED, and learn the basics of wiring, safety, and working with metal components. Students of any level should come prepared with a lamp design on the first day; ceiling, floor, table, wall, or sculptural, keeping the glass component under 12” in diameter. Glass and lighting fabrication experience is not required, though this is a very rigorous course that will cover a variety of techniques and lighting types.

This course could be a starting point for a much more elaborate creation or simply an opportunity to light that space over your counter.

Instructor: Brendan Keim and Anders Rydstedt
