Description

Story x Design

Story is an essential part of human history. It’s how we’ve passed record, emotion, and beliefs down from generation to generation. In design, we use the power of storytelling to set vision and motivate teams around a common goal. In daily life, we tell stories to entertain, teach, and immortalize our heroes. In this episode of Designers + Geeks, we’ll explore the power of storytelling with Tim Lilis, cofounder of Primer Stories and Megan Jones, audio producer with David Sedaris, The Moth, among an extensive portfolio of work.

TIM LILLIS | Cofounder of Primer Stories

Tim Lillis is a partner and cofounder at Primer Stories, a visual storytelling website with DNA spliced from comics, podcasts, magazine articles, and documentaries. Their the goal is to expand the interactive medium in the same way that podcasts did for radio and TED talks did for speaking engagements. Using animation, illustration, and photography, they illuminate such topics as the urban air rights trade, hidden gold, grave-robbing, and the birth and death of the solar system. They spun off the for-hire studio Primer&Co. in 2016 and recently published an interactive project for the International Committee of the Red Cross.

MEGAN JONES

Megan's happy places are in arts, design, healthcare, and technology. She enjoys working on complex subjects that benefit from a sense of humor and light touch. By day, she works with podcast producers and companies on digital content strategy, multimedia production, promotion, and story distribution. By night, she’s a Bay Area producer for The Moth. Her most recent projects include the audiobook Theft by Finding by David Sedaris, Ear Hustle podcast from Radiotopia, and The Stoop podcast. She has talked about storytelling at Talks@Google, San Francisco State University, and UC Berkeley. Her spirit animal is a cookie.

FAQs

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Yes, this event is 21+, and attendees will need to present a valid ID to join us. It's the beer!

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Yelp's beautiful office is near the corner of New Montgomery and Mission St, right in the heart of San Francisco. It's easy to get to from BART, many buses, or your ride sharing app of choice. If you need to drive, paid parking is available nearby.

Can I arrive after 8pm?

No!! For building security staffing reasons, we can not let you in after 8pm. We're not joking - if it's 8:00.0001pm, you will be turned away. This really sucks, and we don't want it to happen - please arrive before 8pm.
