### Description

This BSA STEM NOVA MATH module is designed to help youth understand how Mathematics affect our lives every day.

The LA Lone Scouts will be attending a LIVE college football game for Requirement #3A and Requirement #3D where each Scout will keep track of either the HOME team of USC Trojans, or the VISITORS team of Fresno State Bulldogs during the entire game.

Scouts will use either a notebook or the Designed-To-Crunch Worksheet http://usscouts.org/advance/nova/workbooks/Scout-Nova-4.pdf during the Game to:

• Write down data and calculations.
• Calculate team’s statistics using the following as examples:
• Kicks/punts.
• Kickoff—Kick return yards.
• Punt—Number, yards.
• Field goals—Attempted, percent completed, yards.
• Extra point—Attempted, percent completed
• Offenses.
• Number of first downs.
• Forward passes—Attempted, percent completed, total length of passes, longest pass, number and length of passes caught by each receiver, yardage gained by each receiver after catching a pass.
• Running plays—Number, yards gained or lost for each run, longest run from scrimmage line, total yards gained or lost, and number of touchdowns.
• Defenses.
• Number of quarterback sacks, interceptions turnovers, and safeties.
• Share calculations with counselor, and discuss conclusions about team’s strengths and weaknesses.

FOR WHOM:

Open to ALL Scouts registered with any Council of the Boy Scouts of America, regardless of rank and gender, who is (a) at least 11-years old by 09/01/19, (b) in Grades 6-12 for the current school year (2019-2020) and (c) have earned ONE or more of the following Merit Badges by August 25, 2019:

• Digital Technology
• Drafting
• Entrepreneurship
• Orienteering
• Personal Management
• Signs, Signals & Codes
• Surveying
• Weather

HOW TO RSVP/SIGNUP:

Registration for any and all LA Lone Scouts‘ events is a TWO PART PROCESS:

1) SignUp on Eventbrite - one Scout at a time and using the Scouts‘ First-and-Last-Name with their parent’s email address.

2) Fill Out ClassRoster - the form is sent out via the Eventbrite email platform to the email address you use to sign up on Eventbrite. Please check that email box on the 12th between June and August 2019 as your response on behalf of your Scouts is required at least ONCE.

1) This is NOT a drop-off. All Scouts must attend with one adult companion at a maximum ratio of 4-Scouts to 1-adult from the same Troop/District.

2) Price listed is PER PERSON - whether Scout or Adult. Everyone needs a ticket to enter the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

3) Everyone - Scout or Adult - needs to use a see-through/clear bag to carry their items per this policy posted at https://www.lacoliseum.com/beclear/

4) Parking and travel arrangements from wherever you are and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum by USC is your responsibility.

5) If taking the Metro, please disembark at USC/Vermont or USC/Expo.

6) Scouts (11-17 years old) must attend in their Class A field uniform and bring the following in a see-through /clear bag as described at https://www.lacoliseum.com/beclear/ :

7) We will most likely need to exit the Coliseum and adjourn to a second location after the game ends to complete the requirements. The second location will be either a Starbucks within walking distance or picnic tables by the California Science Center. The second location will be confirmed at the game itself.

8) Scouts will receive a Nova Patch or Pi pin from Nova Counselor if he/she completes all the requirements as written on 8/31/2019. Details will also be provided via the Eventbrite email platform to all Eventbrite signups.

9) NO REFUNDS unless game is canceled due to earthquake. The workshop will take place as scheduled, rain or shine.

10) This game kick off time is usually in the evening. Please be prepared to eat either an early (before game) or a late (after game) dinner...

11) This is the THIRD and FINAL Nova Mathematics workshop organized by LA Lone Scouts.
