More about the event:

With today’s rapid growth of technology and advanced communication solutions, the way the AEC industry designs and constructs buildings should be better, faster and cheaper – yet it isn’t. Major metropolitan areas around the globe are grappling with a shortage of affordable housing, and our current construction process, which has remained largely unchanged for decades, cannot keep pace.

BuroHappold believes there is a better way to design for maximum flexibility while reducing construction time. The answer lies in using pre-fabricated construction that allows for easy site assembly. While this practice isn’t new, BuroHappold believes the process can be greatly improved by fully integrating architecture, engineering and construction drivers from the onset and using an interactive computational design platform to manage the complexities. This creates a kit of parts that allows maximum flexibility in the design response and reduces construction time.

If prefab is the future, how do we ensure flexibility as a must so the architectural design response doesn’t get stifled by the construction methodology? What role can computational technology play in this? And above all, with a drive to new models of living, live/work communities and the need for continuous adaptation, what types of buildings do we need?

Join BuroHappold Engineering and industry leaders as we discuss these questions and more at our Exchange of Ideas panel discussion.
