Crafting the question that makes design research actionable

Translating design research into actions can often be seen as more of an art than a science. It takes practice and experience to be able to navigate this grey area.

At Delve, we have found that using a device such as a “How Might We” question is a very useful tool.

How Might We’s are critical questions in the transition from research to ideation. Framing up the completed research can set the design phase up for success.

About Our Speakers

Tayler Nowak, Design Researcher, Delve. Tayler's background in academia and consumer research allows her to apply scientific rigor to design insights and strategy. She holds degrees with a long string of a words -- a testament to her interdisciplinary approach to design. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Consumer Behavior and Psychology and a Master of Science degree in Human Ecology: Consumer Behavior and Strategic Innovation (Organizations, Technology, and Society) from the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She credits her knowledge and application of design thinking to her university fellowship with the Stanford When there are gaps in information, Tayler loves planning and executing studies that provide insight into complex systems and processes. She believes that shifting perspectives, reframing challenges, and questioning assumptions are foundational to driving better design solutions.

Shannon Ingles, Design Strategist, Delve. Shannon Ingles, with a BFA in Industrial Design and experience in healthcare service design, utilizes her skills to map intangible components crucial to bringing strategies and services to fruition. Her passion involves having a rationale for decisions, including everything from color choice to larger strategic moves, and communicating through visuals to explain these decisions simply. Shannon’s knowledge of mapping how things work allows her to find gaps, connections, pains, gains and how insights can positively affect offerings and strategies.
