Event description

Description

For this first public design workshop of the year: Let's reimagine the storm season and hurricane evacuation experience as we learn some basic attitudes of design thinking !

The Taylor Center’s short “crash course” introduces participants to human-centered design (HCD) as a process to generate new ideas to solve problems, while keeping people (“humans”) front and center. Through a fast-paced, hands-on activity addressing a challenge we all face, participants will learn some basic “mindsets” of design-thinking or human centered design. This process offers ways of engaging with the world that exercises your empathy muscles, “beginner’s mind”, and “bias toward action”. Each time we address a real challenge that we can all relate to, aiming to draw from our experiences to help solve everyday problems and undertand how design mindsets bring new and different approaches to problem-solving. We take time at the end to share solutions and reflect on the workshop and learning objectives.

Free! Open to the public! We welcome faculty, staff, students, and community members.

Doors open at 12 for welcome and self-tour of our new HT facility on the fourth floor of the main library on Tulane's uptown campus. The workshop activities begin promptly at 12:10. Please don’t be late! This interactive workshop is a quickly paced, timed exercise with a (new) partner. Be prepared to stay until the end for maximum learning. But if you have to leave, we'll understand. If you have done a crash course or team design workshop before, please join us again as repetition is a good way to learn.
