Event description

Join us in September for a conversation with Fiona Wilson, the Executive Director of UNH's Center for Social Innovation. Fiona will discuss the competing challenges for sustainable food businesses, including keeping food affordable while maintaining living wages for producers and workers. She will offer examples of food businesses that have succeeded in maintaining their triple bottom line (profit, people, planet) with innovative approaches to diversification, aggregation, and marketing. Fiona will also introduce the idea of design thinking, a methodological tool that food businesses can use to find creative solutions to their challenges.

In addition, Fiona will talk about the NH Social Venture Innovation Challenge (SVIC), an idea-based challenge that hopes to inspire students and community members across the state to develop creative, solution-oriented ideas to today's most pressing social or environmental issues. The SVIC remains accessible to all by emphasizing creative ideas rather than full business plans - the winners of the challenge receive cash prizes and resources to help bring their ideas to fruition. We hope to inspire innovative thinking and problem solving in the food system by encouraging more food system social entrepreneurs to participate!
