Event Details

Michael Sorkin is an architect and urbanist whose practice spans design, criticism, and teaching. He is the principal of Michael Sorkin Studio in New York, a global design practice focused on urbanism and green architecture. James Wines is founder and president of SITE, a New York-based architectural studio chartered in 1970. Through his multidisciplinary practice, Wines develops site-specific structures that engage information about the environment, including buildings, public spaces, environmental art, landscapes, master plans, interiors, video productions, graphics, and product designs.

Join us for a conversation between National Design Award winners Michael Sorkin and James Wines, as they discuss their work and the state of public space in the urban environment today with Cooper-Hewitt's Director, Caroline Baumann.

About the series
A vibrant conversation and presentation series, Design Talks features winners from the National Design Awards and focuses on the collaborative aspects of design. The series was started in spring 2010 by late Cooper-Hewitt Director Bill Moggridge. To view previous webcasts from the Design Talks series, visit www.youtube.com/cooperhewitt.

About the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum
As the only museum in the nation devoted exclusively to historic and contemporary design, Cooper-Hewitt educates, inspires, and empowers people through design. The museum is undergoing a transformative renovation resulting in 60 percent more gallery space and will open in fall 2014 with an entirely new visitor experience. During the renovation, Cooper-Hewitt's events and education programs are popping up locally at the Cooper-Hewitt Design Center in Harlem, nationally with the Design in the Classroom program in New Orleans, New York City, San Antonio, Washington, D.C., Cleveland, and Minneapolis and globally with exhibitions in Asia.

Next up in the series: Margie Ruddick & Janette Sadik- Khan, April 16, 2014. Book now!
