Event description

Description

This seminar will focus on the design of prospective studies with an emphasis on repeated measures and longitudinal studies. We will cover important design considerations such as the number of time points and sample size needed to follow up. For longitudinal studies, drop-out resulting in missing data that creates an unbalanced study can be a significant factor and therefore, we will discuss strategies for addressing drop-out such as with an adaptive study design. Following completion of this seminar, participants will have an understanding of the advantages and challenges of prospective studies vis-a-vis retrospective studies, be able to develop an efficient and appropriate study design, and estimate sample size requirements for repeated measures/longitudinal studies.

Learning objectives:

  • Be able to design a prospective longitudinal study: things to consider

  • Understand options for overcoming shortcomings of prospective studies

  • Learn to determine how many subjects to recruit for a follow-up study
