Event description

Description

In this seminar, we'll explore how tied or stencil printed yarns create distinctive blurred patterns, called ikat or chine. We’ll look at traditional warp and weft ikats from Japan, then move on to wildly inventive polychrome Meisen stencil printed patterns influenced by French Art Deco. Be inspired and learn how to develop your own color stories.

Led by Annin Barrett, textile specialist, and Caleb Sayan, Textile Hive co-founder. Space is limited to 15 people for each class. Register on Eventbrite or if you want to sign up for 3 or more classes in the series, contact us directly and receive a discount.

In conjunction with Portland Textile Month, Textile Hive is excited to announce its 2018 Fall seminar series focused on Japanese Textiles for textile enthusiasts, students, and design professionals. The series will include two tracks of three classes each. Track one (October 3rd, 10th, 17th) will focus on historic Sustainable Practices found at Textile Hive and how they can influence future making choices. Track two (October 24th, November 7th & 14th) will focus on design practices and inspiration. Join us for a lively exchange and hands-on experience with some amazing fabrics from the 40,000 piece Andrea Aranow Textile Collection.
