About this Event

Join us for a fun-filled, educational evening on Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 6-8 pm for Design in the Archives at Parkway Central. Come and check out the newly designed space at the Free Library and experience over 20 unique pop-up exhibitions from local archives and collections. Visitors will learn about the 1833 architectural competition that determined Girard College’s design, the history of LGBTQ pride flags in the United States and Philadelphia, the founding of the Universal Design movement, and the design and construction of the Ben Franklin Bridge. Among the many activities offered, visitors will be able to make their own woman’s suffrage pin, color 19th century advertisements, design bookplates with stencils, and work with printmakers from Lead Graffiti to design a Werkman-style letterpress print.

• Live space music designed by Philly’s own Chuck Van Zyl

4 Turbo Talks: quick 5 minute talks on the impact of design on community programming

• Free prizes to be earned by the Free Library’s Discover Design treasure hunt
