Event description

Description

The Design for Good Breakfast Club series is a casual monthly get together over coffee to connect designers who are interested in using design for good, to meet one another, and highlight the needs of social initiatives. Our goal is to showcase opportunities to blend design and doing good.

December’s guests include:

Melis Sönmez, founder of Bright Side, an initiative that shines a light on the positive impact immigrants have on the world.

Melis is a Turkish-born design researcher with a background in product design and brand communication. She has spent the past four years contributing insight and strategic thinking to design teams tackling complex challenges in high-visibility projects. Melis also founded The Bright Side, a community where immigrants share their inspiring stories to empower each other and show the world their positive impact on society.

Amanda A Geppert, Director of Ci3 Design Thinking Lab at the UChicago Center for Interdisciplinary Inquiry and Innovation in Sexual and Reproductive Health (Ci3). Working alongside young people around the globe, the lab develops innovative community and clinic-based interventions to advance health, assets and agency of adolescents. Amanda also leads an emerging portfolio of human-centered design work in the UChicago Office of the Provost concerned with issues of diversity of inclusion on campus and nationally with the Ivy Plus Consortium. She is a PhD student at the IIT Institute of Design where she explores the development and evaluation of community-based participatory design processes. Previously, Amanda led national program replication for Cure Violence, an evidence-based public health approach to reduce shootings and killings. Amanda holds a Master of Public Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a Master of Design Methods from the IIT Institute of Design, and is a PopTech Social Innovation Fellow.
