Design Connect is a three-week job-shadowing introduction to the architecture/design office experience and an opportunity for high-achieving, motivated and committed Junior and Seniors of the Undergraduate Architecture and Environmental Design Program at Morgan State University to experience and learn about architecture practice, design culture and develop strong career-building skills.
Students spend 12-15 hours per week in participating architecture/design offices under the mentorship of professional architects and designers. Activities include observation of office workflow, project management, site visits, design presentations, construction progress, and others. Students benefit the most by experiencing the natural flow of the office. Therefore, no extensive planning or special programming is needed for this three-week immersion. Any natural ‘down time’ from observation is used to prepare a course-issued assignment - “An Intern’s Guide to the Design Office”.
To facilitate planning, Design Connect host firms are asked to confirm participation by Monday, November 21 and select a student via online profiles by November 28. Job shadowing occurs January 3-19, 2016. Examples of previous year participants are available at: https://www.flickr.com/photos/111161454@N04/albums
Host firms are asked to provide a $300 tuition support donation to help facilitate access to this opportunity for our students by making checks payable to: “MSU Foundation – Architecture and Environmental Design Program Fund,” and mailed to the contact below or by making an electronic payment here on Eventbrite. The donation is tax-deductible as allowed by law. Please note this donation is requested of participating firms, but is optional and not mandatory for participation. If you are unable to host, but would still like to make a donation to support a student, that would also be much appreciated.
The impact of your contribution to the future of the design profession cannot be overstated. Thank you for you support and participation!
