DESIGN APPRENTICESHIP

Ages 13+
Tuesdays, 3:30-6:00pm
9 Sessions: October 17th-December 19th (no class on November 21st)

Tuition: Sliding scale $10-$225

The Design Apprenticeship is a laboratory for thinking, designing and making! We encourage curious questions on how things work, how things are made and designed. In this class you will learn to think like a designer, devising solutions for the unmet needs of people. Each student will walk away with a solid understanding of what it means to be a designer and a process that can help them approach everyday problems in their own lives.

Assignments will span several mediums and techniques, and the class will develop a student’s ability to think critically about how and what they are making. The students will experience and take part in creative problem solving and making from a variety of design disciplines and using both computer and hand tools. Drawing is a staple of the Design Apprenticeship, as well as Graphic, Industrial, and Product Design.

This class will be taught by Brooke Chornyak, a graphic designer, educator and collaborator. She is the co-founder of a Portland based design lab, Collective IQ, and an Assistant Professor at Maine College of Art and Boston University.

Registration for this nine-week course is on a sliding scale from $10-$225 and includes all materials. Email learn@feedtheengine.org to register at a different rate, or about drop-in participation.
