Event description

Description

Everyone wants to be a part of history, and Las Vegas has it in spades: a century of neon lights, gambling, and other forms of entertainment. This glittering city has drawn in millions of visitors and enchanted locals. Amidst the vivid arts it has to offer rings the bellwether Desert Winds. Dr. Charles Maguire, founder and artistic director, celebrates 10 years of this extraordinary group by premiering Julie Giroux’s “Incantations,” a sizzling work commissioned for this special occasion, as well as Caleb Hammer’s “Streets of the City,” a snapshot of colorful society as witnessed on the streets of New York.

Joining the Desert Winds on this musical journey is guest conductor Richard Brunson, who helped originate the group ten years ago. Conductor John Seaton leads the ensemble with Eric Whitacre’s “Goodnight Moon,” a musical adaptation of the beloved classic children’s book by Margaret Wise Brown. Another thrilling addition to this special occasion is mezzo-soprano Megan Franke, Director of Vocal and Choral Activities at the Las Vegas Academy of the Arts, who will grace the night with her astounding vocal intonations. The evening also includes Dmitri Shostakovich’s vivacious Festive Overture.

Join us and become a part of the rich history of the Desert Winds and see how far music can take you and your imagination. The sky is the limit, and the story of Las Vegas is still being written.
