In this training, participants will learn Diagnosis, Assessment and Treatment of teens experiencing depression.

JSSA Training Institute is pleased to announce training on working with teens experiencing depression - 3 Category I CE'a provided for this training

DATE: Sept 17, 2019

TIME: 9am-12:15pm

Dr. Kenneth Towbin will provide a current review of literature, with case examples and opportunities for Q & A. The topics covered will include screening and assessment of major depression, and assessment and response to risk in major depression in adolescents. Dr. Towbin will also address both pharmacological and psychological treatments, factors that influence outcomes, and limitations in applying research findings to clinical practice.

Learning Objectives: Participants will learn:

1. What defines Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and the scope of the problem in teens

2. How, in clinical practice, one screens, assesses and responds to risk in MDD

3. The efficacy of psychological and pharmacological treatments for MDD in teens

4. Limitations in applying findings from treatment literature to practice

5. Risk factors for a poor outcome in treatment

6. Family features that influence treatment outcome

About the Trainer: Ken Towbin, MD

Kenneth E. Towbin, M.D., is the Chief of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the Emotion and Development Branch in the Intramural Research Program at NIMH. He is a Senior Research Physician at the NIMH and a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science at the George Washington University School of Medicine.

Dr. Towbin has extensive and diverse experience in child and adolescent psychiatry. ‬‪He has authored on the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of psychiatric disorders of children; his primary work at NIMH is as a member of a group led by Argyris Stringaris that focuses on adolescent major depression, and pediatric mood disorders. He is a past member of the Editorial Board Member of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He has also worked in an advisory capacity to the US Food and Drug Administration. ‬‬‬‬

Dr. Towbin is a Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, in both General Psychiatry and in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
