About this Event

Depression & Use of the PHQ-9: A Maryland BHIPP CME Event*

Dr. Mark Riddle, Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist

At any given time, one in five children may have a mental health disorder. Family physicians and pediatricians are an important resource for parents and families to discuss their child's emotional development and mental health. Maryland Behavioral Health Integration in Pediatric Primary Care (BHIPP) aims to build the skills of primary care providers to identify and manage some of the most common mental health concerns. In partnership with Anne Arundel County Mental Health Agency, Inc., BHIPP is offering this free CME training talk for primary care providers in the Anne Arundel and surrounding communities.

Session Learning Objectives:

  • Use items on the PHQ-9 Modified for Adolescents to initiate and perform a brief evaluation of major depressive disorder.
  • Use selected items on the PHQ-9 Modified for Adolescents to initiate and perform a brief evaluation of passive death wishes, suicidal thoughts and suicidal plans.
  • Use selected items on the PHQ-9 Modified for Adolescents to initiate and perform a brief evaluation of non-suicidal self injurious behavior.
  • Implement and monitor medications to treat depression in children and adolescents.
