Description

This workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn and review the principles of classifiers usage in ASL, specifically medical topics, anatomy, and procedures. As a group, pairs, and individually, participants will incorporate classifiers in depiction, description, and stories. The session will focus on understanding and applying classifiers, hand shapes, movements, and identification labeling. Through various activities, the presenter will provide a fun, pratical approach to ASL depiction usage.

Educational Objectives:

  • Learn the difference between surrogate (taking the role of a person or thing) and depicting verbs (using classifiers to depict the movement, use actions of something)
  • Identify and understand the 8 classifications of classifiers
  • Understand the topic of Medical Procedures, anatomy, and different aspects of medical issues
  • Develop and demonstrate the ability of using classifiers to practice medical scenarios and components of body parts

About Anthony Natale: Anthony natale is an ASL Consultant in the entertainment field. Natale is an ASL master and was a professional Development Specialist at Sorenson Communications training Certified Interpreters. He is currently working as a Community Relations Manager in Marketing. As an actor, Natale is known for playing Cole in Mr. Holland's Opus. He has worked closely with Deaf West productions, acting, translating, and consulting Big River, Sleepy Beauty Wakes, Pippin, and Spring Awakening. He was honored to work with Michael Jackson London Tour teaching ASL to his dancers, and Switched at Birth as ASL dialogue coach and as Emmett's dad. Upon his high school graduating as a valedictorian, he attended California State University, Northridge graduating with a B.A. in film production and a minor in Theatre Arts.

SCRID is an Approved RID CMP Sponsor for continuing education activities. This Professional Studies program is offered at 0.3 CEUs at the Little/None, Some, and Extensive Content Knowledge Level.
