Description

Orcenith Smith, music director
Sunday | September 17, 2017 | 3 p.m.
Green Center, 605 S. College

The DePauw Symphony Orchestra opens its season with virtuosity and grand imagery. The opening overture to Mozart’s comic opera The Marriage of Figaro is fast, humorous and filled with dramatic interjections, while the exquisite tone poem The Fountains of Rome, by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi, provides reflection on four famous fountains, noting the activity around each at different times of day, from serene to frenzied.

About the Ensemble
The DePauw University Orchestra focuses on performing standard repertoire, creating a four-year overview that is a cross-section of music including most style periods, regional influences and genres. The orchestra performs concerts – often broadcast live on WGRE-FM and the Internet – and plays for DePauw Opera productions, accompanies student concerto winners, and performs with the University’s choirs, faculty and guest soloists.

General admission: $5
Tickets for seniors, youth and all students are free.
