Event description


Family and Consumer Sciences alumni and friends are invited to celebrate the grand opening of the AT remodeled classrooms, labs, offices and Allegre´ Restaurant as well as the FCS programs on Thursday, September 28, 2017.

Meet with former and current faculty, current students, and former classmates and friends who have been supportive of our programs for decades as you participate in the various afternoon activities and tour the beautiful facilities.

You may register for the luncheon, meet and greet alumni and current students from your program or those that interest you, A tour of the AT building (former Practical Arts Building) will be hosted by Interior Design Alumna Danielle Downer,’07, who was instrumental in designing the spaces. In addition, tours of the Maplewood Mansion Learning Lab and the Child Study Center (scheduled transportation is furnished) will be available. Enjoy light refreshments before experiencing a dramatic reading that relates the story of children raised in Home Management Houses in the 1960’s. View a fashion show to complete the afternoon.

A ticketed dinner will follow in Allegre´ Restaurant.The dinner is $100 per person (includes a $70 tax deductible contribution to the university to benefit the FCS programs).

Complimentary reservations are required for all other events to arrange food and seating.

    One of the historical Ball mansions, the Maplewood Mansion Learning Lab is located on Minnetrista Boulevard, and is an extended stay residential hotel operated by students enrolled in the Residential Property Management and Hospitality and Food Management programs.

  • 2:30-3:00 Break/refreshments

  • 3:00-5:00 Dramatic reading of the play "Borrowed Babies" and Q&A
    Written by Jennifer Blackmer, associate provost for Entrepreneurial Learning and professor
    of Theatre. This is a story of children being raised in Home Management Houses, which were part of the Home Economics/Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum in the 1960's

  • 5:00-6:00 Fashion Show and appetizers

  • 6:00-8:00 Dinner - Allegre
    Menu includes:
    Amuse Gueule, Beef Negimaki, Yuzi Pearls suspended in Tomato Water, Quail Egg on Watercress Sabayon

    Appetizer: Salmon tasting (Gravad Lax - Tartare - Terrine and their Accoutrements)

    Soup: Saffron and Lobster Cappuccino

    Entree: Dialog of Moulard Duck, Lavender scented Duck Breast and Savoy Cabbage, Braised Duck Confit Celeriac
    Puree, and Wild Mushroom Risotto Galette

    Dessert: Flourless Chocolate Cake with Pawpaw Coulis, Indiana Cream Ale Foam
