ABOUT THE EVENT

Experience the epitome of Black Girl Magic at blues singer-songwriter Denarii Grace's third "HERSELF" show: a night of powerful, engaging, and thought-provoking original music, poetry, and essay excerpts. Joined by the Atlanta-based, Black all-female rock band The Txlips, they'll help her both croon and jam to her grooves *and* rock out to some of their own tunes as well. Playing together for the first time, it's a night of indie Black womyn excellence that you WON'T want to miss! Be moved, be inspired, be healed, be happy and free!

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

"Denarii Grace Presents: HERSELF" is a showcase for freelance writer, singer-songwriter, poet, aspiring screenwriter, and long time activist Denarii Grace. She's a 30 year old, Black as fuck, bisexual, non-monogamous, poor (from a generationally poor family) and long-term unemployed, multiply disabled, femme as fuck, anti-capitalist, proudly fat woman.

Rooted in a philosophy of art as activism, art as healing, and art as both a path to and form of liberation from oppression, Denarii's poetry, music, essays, and articles (and eventually, films) educate, validate, and illuminate issues of self, romantic, platonic, and community love, loving Blackness (and crawling from the pit of hating it), the life of an artist, disability justice, faith, friendship, and so much more.

When her art gets sexual, it hearkens back and taps into the early women blues artists - many of whom we'd call bisexual or queer today, many of whom were fat - who were unapologetic in their need, desire for, and love of sex on their terms.

Denarii Grace will be reading original poetry and excerpts from original essays as well as singing original music (blues and R&B/pop) and covering a few of her favorite songs. All music will be a capella, relying on the power, strength, and emotion of her voice and presence. Come support a multiply marginalized artist who's finally walking in the purpose her ancestors set for her, and be moved - to love, to grow, to act, to uproot!
