About this event
Our Thought Leadership Breakfasts, are educational breakfasts which take place every few months and feature panel discussions with industry experts, and thought leaders, in specific digital technology topics. There will, of course, always be room for networking before and after the event.
This month, we are focusing on Quantum Computing, demystifying, and unpacking different approaches to quantum computing
Where: KPMG Vancouver, 777 Dunsmuir Street Vancouver, BC V7Y 1K3
When: 8.00am - 9.30am, Wednesday January 29
What: Quantum Computing
Who:
Dr. Barry Sanders, Professor, Director of the Institute for Quantum Science and Technology at the University of Calgary
Dr. Barry Sanders is Professor of Physics and Director of the Institute for Quantum Science and Technology at the University of Calgary. He is a global leader in quantum information science, including quantum computing and quantum secure communication. Dr. Sanders is a 1000-Talents Chair Professor at the University of Science and Technology of China, a JAVRA Chair Professor at the Raman Research Institute in India and an Editor-in-Chief of the New Journal of Physics. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK), the American Physical Society, the Opitical Society of America and the Royal Society of Canada.
Dan Cohrs, CFO at D-Wave Systems
Dan Cohrs brings an extensive and diverse background to the company, having served in senior positions in corporate strategy, development and finance at Marriott, Northwest Airlines, GTE, Global Crossing and most recently at RenTech, Inc. and Rentech Nitrogen Partners in Los Angeles. Dr. Maliheh Aramon, Optimization Lead at 1QBit
Maliheh Aramon was born in Tehran, Iran. After completing her master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, she studied Optimization at the University of Toronto, where she received her PhD in 2014. Maliheh joined 1QBit as an Applied Researcher a year later. She is currently the Optimization Research Lead at 1QBit, where she focuses on developing algorithms and tools for solving real-world optimization problems, in sectors as diverse as energy, finance, and life sciences. She is part of a team who works to leverage the strength of classical computing devices as well as exotic hardware, including quantum devices, in pursuit of solutions to some of computationally challenging problems.
Dr. Stephanie Simmons, Assistant Professor Department of Physics at SFU & Principal Investigator at Silicon Quantum Technology Lab
Dr. Stephanie Simmons earned a Ph.D. in Materials Science at Oxford University in 2011 as a Clarendon Scholar. She Joined Simon Fraser University as an Assistant Professor and Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Quantum Nanoelectronics in the fall of 2015. Stephanie works on silicon-based spin qubits with the particular aim to develop CMOS-compatible scalable quantum technology solutions. Her work on silicon qubits was awarded a Physics World Top Ten Breakthrough of the Year in 2013 and again in 2015. Her work has been covered by the New York Times, CBC, BBC, Scientific American, the New Scientist, and others.
