Dementia Practitioner Seminar & Certification Class

Become a Certified Dementia Practitioner, CDP®

8 Hours General CEUs -- Social Workers, Nurses, etc.

8 Hours CEUs -- South Carolina LTC Administrators

Instructor: Michael C. Mahon, MS, LHA, CADDT, CDM, CDP

National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners, NCCDP, Approved Trainer

Michael Mahon has over twenty years’ experience working as both a dementia practitioner and trainer. Along with being a dynamic educator and speaker, he is a licensed Administrator and Executive Director in Assisting Living and Memory Care.

Cost (two options):

$195 General CEU hours (provided through NASW)

$295 South Carolina Long Term Care Administrators CEUs (approved by SC Board)

Details about the class:

This class is the required “live” seminar portion for those pursuing certification as a Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP®).

Students will receive a binder with tabbed class materials. After this class, students will have 30 days to submit an application to NCCDP (National Council of Certified Dementia Practitioners) for consideration for CDP® certification. You can find more information at nccdp.org.

Goals & Objectives

  • To provide a fundamental education on dementia and dementia care

  • To enhance the quality of life of dementia patients through education care providers

  • To foster sensitivity & respect for the person with dementia

  • To teach communication techniques

  • To provide sensitive approaches for assisting patients/residents with activities of daily living

Participants will:

  • Have an understanding of dementia

  • Identify common causes of aggression, repetitive, and sundowning behaviors

  • Learn behavioral/care interventions that may be used to prevent, reduce, or eliminate difficult care situations

  • Address challenges related to caregiver stress & utilize stress reduction techniques

  • Learn alternative activity interventions that are success oriented

  • Receive certificate of attendance in seminar
