Event description

Description

At pGNOSIS our vision is to enable the geospatial industry. A step towards actualizing this vision is to empower students and existing professionals alike with tools, skills and relevant experience to add adequate value wherever applicable. We advocate for open source applications not just because they are free and easily accessible but because they are OPEN. Open means access to the source codes and this means we can extend the capabilities and adapt the tools to our specific/unique requirements.
Therefore, following the launch of our training offerings through our Open source Boot camp, we are now taking the elements apart in these series of workshops taking place in Abuja: 13 & 14 November 2017.

This class introduces the student to QGIS. After a brief introduction to QGIS you’ll learn how to install the software on your computer and become familiar with the user interface. Next you’ll learn how to work with vector GIS data including familiarizing yourself with the various supported GIS data formats, learn how to use the vector properties dialog, perform attribute and spatial queries, create and edit data, style your layers, and work with data projections. You’ll also learn how to use the basic QGIS tools including map composer, save and restore projects, identify and select features, use the overview panel, edit/view/search attributes, perform feature labeling, measure, add annotation and rendering, and use bookmarks. Creating print quality maps is also of obvious important to any GIS professional so you’ll learn how to create and print maps. In our advanced section of the course you’ll learn how to implement geoprocessing operations, use common plugins including DB Manager, GDALTols, GPS tool, Heatmap, Mapserver Export, and more.
