Deterring Events using Physical Security
Whether your facility is a commercial business, government agency, or public institution – the overall need to protect your staff and visitors is at a record high. Nick Hoyt from Chesapeake & Midlantic Marketing will introduce a few of the latest electronic security technologies that fully supports ASHEPAR: Active Shooter Hostile Event Preparedness And Response. These security technologies should be considered in your efforts to mitigate and protect against effects of an Active Shooter Hostile Event.

Nick Hoyt
Nick is a principal at Chesapeake and Midlantic Marketing. Nick began his career in the electronic security industry in 1991 as a manufacturer’s representative. In 1995, he co-founded the manufacturer’s rep firm Chesapeake Marketing Associates, Inc., with his lifelong friend and business partner, Steve Pennington. In 2001, an opportunity to join forces with another security rep firm, Midlantic Marketing, LLC, expanded the geographic footprint and capabilities of both organizations. Nick’s experience and tenure in the industry have positioned him well to understand the challenging requirements of today’s complex physical security landscape. His detailed knowledge of the security industry allows him to provide comprehensive support to end users, integrators, specifiers, and distributors. Support services provided by Nick and his team include; equipment demonstrations, system design, product training, technology education, site surveys, and technical support.

The Cardinal Rules of Firearm Safety
There are universal pillars of gun safety that must be followed to safeguard and protect innocent victims against unintentional firearm discharges. In addition, where there are firearms, there are laws from each State that dictate the purchase, possession and transport of firearms as well as the individual’s right of self-protection at home, at work and out in public. Chris will introduce “The Cardinal Rules of Firearm Safety” both in-home and out of the home along with providing the audience with a “Snap-Shot” view of the various gun laws in the region.

Sergeant Christopher D. Foraker, L.E. Retired
Chris is a 2001 graduate of the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command. He is the founder and CEO of Veritas Training Institute, LLC, headquartered in Townsend, Delaware. A Delaware native, Chris has been involved in firearms for well over 30 years and served as a twenty-two-year veteran of the Delaware State Police before retiring in 2007. He developed the firearms training program for Constable Certification at Wilmington University and implemented firearms training and certifications for Nemours/A.I. DuPont Hospital, Red Clay Consolidated School District and Tower Hill School public safety departments.

Active Shooter Response Training
The increasing frequency and lethality of active shooter events in the United States has many people worried about and afraid of the phenomena; studies of previous events show that education and preparation can greatly increase survivability. The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy developed by Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) in 2004, provides strategies, guidance, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, what to expect when police arrive and medical issues, amongst others. The training seeks to arm you with knowledge and skills designed to encourage appropriate actions and help you survive, should you face an active shooter event.

Special Agent Micheal Copeland
Mike is assigned to the FBI's Baltimore Field Office. His primary duty is to provide Active Shooter Response Training to law enforcement and civilians; he also serves as an Assistant Team Leader on the FBI Baltimore SWAT team and is a Firearms and Tactical Instructor. Prior to the FBI, Mike worked for the Defense Intelligence Agency as a Civilian Intelligence Officer (working Counterterrorism matters), and he started his federal career as an enlisted Army Infantryman.
