Description

Hoosier Environmental Council, Keep Delaware County Clean, and League of Women Voters of Muncie/Delaware County present:

Delaware County CAFO Workshop

Are you, or someone you know, threatened or harmed by an inappropriately sited CAFO – existing or proposed? Or are you simply a concerned citizen seeking empowerment to act on behalf of Indiana’s environment and rural Hoosiers’ quality of life and property rights?

Join the Hoosier Environmental Council’s Senior Staff Attorney and Director of Agriculture Policy, Kim Ferraro, on Thursday, April 26th from 5:30 p.m. -9:30 p.m. in the Heartland Building - North Hall of the Delaware County Fairgrounds for a FREE educational workshop on factory farms (i.e., concentrated animal feeding operations or CAFOs). Learn about the impacts of CAFOs on Indiana’s environment, economy, and human health, alternatives for economic development, the role that food choice plays in ensuring a healthy environment for all, and what you can do to advance the movement for greater local and state protection against the damaging impacts of factory farms!

TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION INCLUDE:

• Protecting your community against the irresponsible siting of new CAFOs

• Ensuring that existing operations are following the law

• Becoming an effective advocate in pushing for greater local and state protections

• Learning your legal rights under zoning, land use, environmental, and public access laws related to CAFOs

• Making positive change in a challenging political climate and building the local and statewide movement for a more sustainable food production system
