What is the Diabetes Empowerment Education Program (DEEP?)

The Diabetes Empowerment Education Program, also known as DEEP, is an education curriculum designed to help people pre-diabetes, diabetes as well as their relatives or caregivers to gain a better understanding of diabetes self-care. Classes last a total of six weeks, providing participants with eight unique learning modules. The classes provide the knowledge and skills necessary to reduce complications resulting from diabetes, such as vision loss, amputation, kidney failure, heart failure, and stroke. Each DEEP workshop meets once a week for six weeks with one an a half hour sessions (Tuesdays, October 31 to December 5 from 1-2:30 p.m.). DEEP is an evidence-based, diabetes self-management education program. DEEP is for those who want to acquire the knowledge and skills to administer care upon being given a doctor administered pre-diabetes or diabetes diagnosis.


What is the cost of DEEP and who is eligible to participate?

The FREE class is geared for people age 65 and over who are Medicare recipients. Anyone with diabetes or pre-diabetes is welcome to attend. Caregivers are welcome to attend too.   • Improving and maintaining the quality of life of persons with pre-diabetes and existing diabetes

  • Preventing complications and incapacities

  • Improving eating habits and maintaining adequate nutrition

  • Increasing physical activity

  • Developing self-care skills

  • Improving the relationship between patients and health care providers

  • Utilizing available resources

Are there any special instructions to help me find the event location or access parking?

Missoula County Extension & Weed District Office is located behind the Northgate Shopping Center (Albertson’s) off North Reserve Street. From Mullen Road, turn onto Great Northern Way (Copper Run Apartments are on the corner.) Great Northern Way is the street that runs parallel behind the Northgate Shopping Center. Turn onto Santa Fe Court and drive down the court until you see the first white office building on your right. Missoula County Weed District and Extension Office are in the white building at 2825 Santa Fe Court.
