About this Event

DECONSTRUCTION/RECONSTRUCTION, $139

Saturday, October 26 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Are you ready to breathe new life into a treasured garment? Do you desire to transform thrifted apparel into sophisticated sartorial finds?

Bring two to four garments to this hands-on workshop through which you will learn how to properly deconstruct and re-purpose apparel. We’ll also share tips to scout items primed for re-purposing. Ten to twelve months sewing experience required.

Only 10 places!

Students will work on Janome HD-3000 and School Mate 7330 straight-stitch home sewing machines and Janome and Babylock home sergers.

Students will learn:

  • How to piece apart and alter a garment,
  • Tips to design with thrifted or re-purposed garments and fabric,
  • Patching and mending techniques for function and embellishment, and
  • Hand sewing and machine sewing techniques for embellishment.

Basic sewing supplies will be provided. A shopping list will be provided.

This class is being taught by Rightfully Sewn Instructor Nina Littrell. She is a graduate of Kansas City Art Institute where she studied textiles and garment construction. Nina is a Kansas City-based fashion designer who is interested in merging art and fashion.
