Decolonizing Cities Symposium 2018
Event Information
Event description
Description
What does aloha ‘aina look like in Honolulu? How does native knowledge provide solutions to perennial urban dilemmas?
What are the key touchstones in the effort to decolonize cities and how can we decolonize urban development and municipal change? The second Decolonizing Cities symposium focuses on practices of indigenous urbanism, and how the urban is and should be an arena for indigenous placemaking. Continuing with cross-Pacific connections, the symposium features a keynote by Rau Hoskins, whose work in Aotearoa has expanded the field of Maori architecture.
This symposium is co-sponsored by Department of Urban & Regional Planning, the University of Hawai‘i Community Design Center and the UH Kamakakūokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies.
