About this event

We are delighted to invite you to the Inaugural event of ‘Decolonised Transformations: Confronting the University of Edinburgh’s Legacies of Enslavement and Colonialism’ on Saturday 22 April 2023.

The event will be held within the Playfair Library Hall from 12:45pm - 4.30pm.

The public launch of the ‘Decolonised Transformations’ project: will be an in-person, mixed event with live streaming. This event will allow university staff, students, and community groups (notably those who represent the interests of racially minoritized groups) to meet members of the Research and Engagement Working Group (REWG) and find out more about the work, including how you can get involved.

Event aims:

  • To introduce the project, its aims, website, and ways to get in contact and participate.
  • To field any initial questions or concerns.
  • To collect initial responses and suggestions, including how the review can be shaped by community groups, for example to promote capacity building.
  • To network with interested groups and individuals.
  • To introduce and get feedback on our Principles of Participation.

For further information regarding the project please view the attached document.

In collaboration with reparationists and communities of reparatory justice, we have collated together twelve guiding principles. Please ensure that you have read these prior to attending the event as they underscore the importance of cognitive justice, or the respect for all knowledges, and mutual respect that will underpin our discussions on Saturday.
