Decoding Dyslexia Day 2021
Event Information
About this Event
Welcome to 2021 where our Day at the Capitol will be a virtual event! We hope you are able to join us virtually with families from across the state as they #SayDyslexia. We are encouraged by the start in addressing Dyslexia in Georgia made by the passage of SB48, but there is still work to be done.
Tentative Schedule:
9:30-10 AM Discussion about Parent Advocacy with Tina Engberg, State Leader of DDGA and Ericka Smith, head of I Define Me, Transcending Learning Differences.
10 AM: Go to Senate Floor (via Livestream) to hear Personal Points of Privilege by Senators ( we have no official confirmation on this because of the pandemic induced changes to how the Senate is doing business each day.)
11 AM-Noon: Videos from a number of Georgia Dyslexia Allies who wanted to help us talk about topics ranging from Early Identification and Intervention, The School to Prison Pipeline, SB48, Teacher Preparation, Assistive Technology and the Matthew Effect. AND The Voices of over 80 Georgia Students who are sharing a very special message.
Noon-1:15 PM We have invited Georgia legislators to hop on a "Lunch and Learn" about Dyslexia with parents (you!) and our very special guest, Atlanta sports legend, Brian Jordan, who will share his personal story. We plan to keep the feed open past 1 PM in case any legislators want to Zoom in before going to committee meetings. Tina Engberg and Educator Sherri Lucas-Hill will start with a discussion on teacher preparation and SoR.
