Event description

Description

When was the last time you had an allergic reaction? It could have been anything from a runny nose to something more serious. Allergies are surprisingly common in tropical Singapore, with nearly half of our population affected. What causes this high prevalence? Is it something you are born with, or do you develop it over time? How does our lifestyle affect our allergies?

Come listen to Dr Anand Andiappan as he shares startling insights from years of studying how and why people develop allergies globally; and find out what A*STAR's scientists are doing to help us fight allergies better.

This talk is brought to you by the one-north Festival 2017.

The one-north Festival 2017 is jointly organised by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and the JTC Corporation, and is supported by the Singapore Science Centre.

The festival celebrates how Research, Innovation, Creativity and Enterprise are coming together in one vibrant community at one-north. This year’s theme ‘Pioneering an Innovation Future’ envisions how technologies in the one-north ecosystem play a key role in value creation.

Visitors on public days 18 and 19 August (Friday & Saturday) will be greeted with a variety of talks, interactive innovation booths and hands-on experiments for both students and families to showcase technologies in Future Work, Health and Living.
