Event description

Description

This short series is for experienced improvisors who want to dig deeper into ensemble work. It unfolds over two nights. The first night introduces exercises from Spolin, Ball and others that promote group mind, corporate bodies, close listening and clear intention. The second night applies these exercises to dream sequences plucked from Strindberg, Kurosawa and others including ourselves.

The class will be demanding and fun. Students will be asked to relax their censors, foreground their weirdness, trust their partners and risk bold choices. The teacher asking all of this promises a safe and lively space where we can meet and cross various thresholds. We’ll attempt impossible spectacles, quiet disquieting scenes, and all manner of beautiful, grotesque, delightful and frightening moments. In short, we will improvise theatre that entertains and reveals and holds sway the way dreams do, and we will approach it the way ensembles do.

Together we will keep things moving, keep laughing and give ourselves and one another a good stretch. Students and teacher alike will opt for candor, humor and well-being. Everyone will leave with a fuller command of fluid ensemble work and more energy than they had when they arrived.

Please note: The ticket you purchase enrolls you in both nights, and it is expected that you will commit to both.
