Event description
Deborah Gallin on Street Art in Paris

About this event

This Storytelling Evening features Deborah Gallin who will share her passion for Street Art (aka Urban Art) in Paris with a multi-media presentation. She will touch on the history and knowing well so many street artists, will give us some insight into their inspirations and motivations. Deborah is founder of Art Works Internationally an outgrowth of her passion where she promotes street artists in Europe, North America, and the African continent. She will spotlight Hydrane, a pluri-disciplinary French-Peruvian Urban Artist and Architect who uses dramatic color and Peruvian forms and is inspired by hip-hop culture. One of her large-scale murals she painted on the building just next to the Storytelling Salon location. We will exit to view this stellar example of how this urban artist masters scale and various techniques to create a fascinating translation of emotions, communicating colors in harmony with and adapting to the urban spaceMore on Deborah.....

With a creative bent from a young age, Deborah grew up in Southern California amid Scandinavian furniture and contemporary art (paintings, sculptures, photographs, etc.)  Following a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communications from the University of California, Davis, her first career was as a freelance writer in San Francisco and New York. She moved to France and began managing international corporate communications & marketing at the executive level in Paris for French technology companies. A major incident in her life in 2015 triggered a new orientation aligned with her passion for street art. This new direction led to simultaneously completing two master’s degrees: an MBA from IESA Arts & Culture and an MSc from the Paris School of Business, both in Arts & Cultural Management with an emphasis on visual art. This set the stage for founding Art Works Internationally.

Here are some questions Deborah will field and she welcomes more.

  • What is the difference between tags, graffiti and street art?
  • What is the link between punk rock, hip hop and Street Art?
  • What sparked your interest and passion for this type of art?
  • What is the evolution of Street Art in other environments?
  • What role did Marcel Duchamp play in the history of street art?

This is a hybrid event where I hope to welcome you either onsite in Paris at 19:00 for dinner or online at 20:15 via ZOOM.

Yours in Urban Art,

Bernadette

Organizer Bernadette Martin - Host - Storytelling Salons

Organizer of Deborah Gallin on Street Art in Paris. Join in Paris for dinner

Hello, bonjour and thank you for your interest in the Storytelling Salons. Launched in 2016 (with almost 100 to date), the Storytelling Salons are a modern-day reflection of the 17th and 18th century Parisian Salons, adapted to the 21st century. Storytelling Salons gather online and in Paris, storytelling enthusiasts from across the globe featuring a Storyteller (performers, musicians, artists, writers), who entertain, enthrall, enlighten AND share their story.

My story - I am originally from Los Angeles of Irish, German, and French descent and have lived and worked in Asia, Europe and the US.  Since 2002, I call Paris and Seattle home and feel truly “Euro-American”. As host of the Storytelling Salons, I am delighted to welcome virtually and in Paris, guests from all walks of life and nationalities who share a common thread and passion for storytelling.

Yours in story,

Bernadette
