About this event
The gallery DEATH TO ASSIMILATION showcases Black women and nonbinary people with tattoos, locs, afros, piercings, and bold jewelry in an alternative professional fashion.
Jada Imani M’s sophisticated expressions of the diversity found within the African Diaspora display the vibrance and culture that influence her subjects’ hairstyles, jewelry, textiles and overall aesthetics.
Through addressing the destigmatization of the socially marginalized, Jada Imani M aims to eliminate implicit biases and stereotypes.
The intention of ‘DEATH TO ASSIMILATION ’ is to kill assimilation, adaptation, gentrification and code-switching. With the support of the community, Jada Imani M plans to sell art while simultaneously shifting mindsets.
