Event Details

Come and talk about death and anything connected with it over a cup of tea and cake in a friendly and accepting atmosphere. Everyone is welcome!

The aim of Death Cafe is to provide a forum where people can speak to each other about death as a natural part of life. 

We ask for £5 donation at the door to cover expenses (room hire, posters, teas & cake). We are in a downstairs room and have wheelchair access.

Places are limited. No tickets are needed, but if you have booked and can't come please let us know, so someone else can have your place.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

The minimum ages is 18. No ID is needed. 

 

What can I expect at Death Cafe?

Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group and not a grief support or counselling session. To make it a safe and welcoming space we ask everyone to respect difference in people's experience, thoughts or beliefs and to keep personal stories confiidential. If you have been recently bereaved Death Cafe might not be the right place for you. 

Our Death Cafes are always offered: 

  • On a not for profit basis 
  •  In an accessible, respectful and confidential space 
  • With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action  
  • Alongside refreshing drinks and nourishing food – and cake!

 

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The church is a few minutes from West Hampstead Underground and overground stations at the north end of West End Lane, just behind Fortune Green, at the corner of Lyncroft Gardens. The entrance is in Lyncroft Gardens. Buses C11, 328 and 139 stop nearby.

There is free parking after 6.30pm in surrounding streets.

 

What can I bring into the event?

We serve a variety of teas and cake, including a some gluten free cake or snacks. You are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Josefine Speyer is a UKCP registered psychotherapist, supervisor and death educator based in London. She holds death education workshops, Natural Death Salons and Death Cafés.

She was a co-founder of the Natural Death Centre charity (www.naturaldeath.org.uk). She was co-editor of the Natural Death Handbook (2005) and a contributor to the 2012 edition. She has hosted Death Cafes since 2012. For more information see: www.deathcafe.com/profile/25/
