MENTOR, OH – The best-selling 1994 children’s classic is back!
Renowned artist and author Dean Morrissey will sign copies of Ship of Dreams at Gallery One December 2 and 3 during a series of special events to celebrate the reprinting of this beloved bedtime story. The public is invited to meet the author on Friday, December 2nd, from 6 until 9 p.m. and Saturday, December 3rd from Noon until 8 p.m. These events are free and the public is invited.
Beautifully written and lavishly illustrated by Morrissey, Ship of Dreams was named among the best-selling children’s books of all time and has been translated into several languages. Ship of Dreams tells the story of little Joey, who stays awake to see the Sandman, and the fantastic adventure that ensues. A deluxe holiday set, featuring the book with a book plate signed by Dean Morrissey and a hand-signed, framed giclée, is available exclusively at Gallery One, but in very limited quantities.
“Our annual Dean Morrissey show has been a local tradition for more than two decades. We hosted his first Gallery One exhibit in 1993,” said Alan Brown, Gallery One president. “It featured many of his original paintings from Ship of Dreams. Art collectors came with their kids and grandkids to have him personalize their books. Year after year, many of those same kids have come back with their own children each time Dean returns to Gallery One. We’re the main source for Morrissey’s original paintings, limited edition prints and deluxe edition books.”
Morrissey, a master story-teller, paints ordinary objects in extraordinary settings that appeal to the child in us all. With dramatic lighting and colors so rich and radiant, his resplendent canvases seem to glow from within, drawing the viewer into their magic. When rendered by Morrissey, a child’s worn and dented red wagon can easily soar through the stars. In recent years, Morrissey has painted a number of portraits of Santa Claus, now in great demand by collectors. These as well as many other works by Morrissey, including new original paintings, drawings and hand-signed prints and giclée canvases, will be exhibited at Gallery One for this event.
Established in 1974 and twice-voted “Best Art Gallery in the Cleveland Area,” Gallery One is located at 7003 Center Street (between Rtes. 2 and 90). Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday or by appointment. The family-friendly gallery is wheel chair accessible with convenient, free parking.
