Did you know: People report experiences of rejection, exclusion or ostracism at least once a day. 160,000 kids stay home from school every day because of bullying. Rejection creates surges of anger and aggression. Correlations exist between peer rejection and higher rates of delinquency, arrest, violent behavior and substance abuse. Loneliness and social isolation are just as much a threat to longevity as obesity, smoking 15 cigarettes a day or being an alcoholic.
Join us as we take an in-depth look at how rejection and ostracism affect us and the children in our care. How does it affect behavior, work/school performance, and interpersonal relations? Harriet Armstrong, Health and Human Sciences Educator from Purdue Extension – Bartholomew County, will be facilitating this workshop. Harriet brings into the discussion a partial screening of the documentary REJECT. Weaving together expert finding from neuroscientists, social psychologists, early childhood educators, law enforcement experts and personal testimony, REJECT sheds new light on the universal human experience of rejection.
