About this Event

September marks National Deaf Awareness Month. Deaf Awareness Month was created to increase awareness of Deaf Culture, language and heritage. This year we will be celebrating Deaf culture and commemorating Deaf Awareness Month with our 4th Annual Deaf Celebration Day on Monday, September 23rd at 4:00 p.m.

This event brings all community members, government agencies, non-profit groups, educators, and advocates together in celebrating the Deaf community. Learn about the history of the Deaf rights movement in the United States, one's rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act, and celebrate with ASL stories and poetry!

Food and drinks are available for purchase! Smoke and Ember brings tasty BBQ sandwiches and side dishes to match!

To request a reasonable accommodation contact julia.wolhandler@dc.gov or call 202-727-2890.
