Event description

It's not unusual to serve a client who becomes frustrated or angry; however, when his or her behavior accelerates into the realm of threats or violence, it's necessary to have knowledge about how best to manage the situation.

Institute on Aging welcomes you to a free, 2-hour training at 3575 Geary Blvd., San Francisco, CA 94118. Continuing Education credit will be offered, and the presenter will be IOA's own Jenny Yen, PsyD.

During this training, participants will learn how to recognize, diffuse, redirect and manage client behavior which has potential towards damage or harm towards self or others.

This workshop will be appropriate for all those in aging services, including: psychologists; family therapists; social workers; case managers; nurses; elder-law practitioners; fiduciaries; long-term care administrators; gerontologists, human resources professionals and family/professional caregivers.

INSTRUCTOR: Jenny Yen, Psy.D., Training Director / Supervising Psychologist, for IOA's Integrated Behavioral Health program.

Dr. Yen graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor's degree in clinical psychology, then attended William James College in Boston, MA for her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, with a concentration in Geropsychology. She completed a Geropsychology postdoctoral fellowship at the VA Palo Alto, taking a one-year training in neuropsychological testing and capacity evaluations. Currently, she spends most of her time at IOA San Mateo, consulting and supporting RCFE and IOA staff in addressing challenging client behaviors which are due to dementia and psychiatric issues. She also works as a consultant at the Elder Abuse Forensic Center and conducts capacity evaluations for Adult Protective Services.

Date: Friday, November 1, 2019, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Doors to the training will open at 9:15 a.m. The program will begin on time, so please be prompt.
