Description

The DC Supporting Families Community of Practice (DC SF CoP) is a group of family members, advocates with disabilities, government leaders, disability advocacy and services professionals, and other interested community members committed to learning about and advocating together for policies, practices, and systems that support families with a member with an intellectual or developmental disability across the lifespan.

Some of the activities the DC SF CoP has worked on include:

  • Starting a Parent-to-Parent organization in DC – Parent to parent offers emotional and informational peer support to parents of children with disabilities at any stage of life.

  • Identifying opportunities and supporting people with disabilities and their families to participate in advocacy about disability issues in DC.

  • Sharing ideas with DC government agencies on improving the front door experience for people and families accessing services.

  • Advocating for people with disabilities and their families to remain at the center of decision-making in order to maintain positive control over the lives they choose.

  • Outreach to people with disabilities and their families to learn more about us!
