WHEN: Tuesdays, January 9- February 13 (6 consecutive sessions)

Daytime class: 11:00 am-12:30 pm

WHERE: Daytime class: BISD Board Room

WHAT: Parenting, like growing up, requires on the job training - a learning by doing process filled with blessings and bewilderment. Parenting preteens and young teens challenges parents to learn to flexibly respond to their children as they morph into young adults right before their eyes. That can be tricky. There’s no better time than this to focus on developing resilience in both yourself and in your rapidly changing child. This class will help you learn science based perspectives and practices that will strengthen your ability to you do that. You will learn ways to deepen your connection with your child while respecting their growing need for autonomy. In addition, you will develop skills of emotional coaching, listening, perspective taking, creative & curious questioning as well as communication skills that can help build trust and understanding.

Facilitator: Karolynn Flynn, M.Ed, Cognitive and Developmental Studies; Interpersonal Neurobiology 3 year training certification, educator, founding member/teacher of Hyla Middle School, passionate about the power of healthy families to change the world for good, grateful mother of two lovely adults.
